The Seti at Home team  must split the logs to make the paper which is used record the work units.  They  are then scanned into the computer before being sent out for analysis by the volunteers.   The splitter that they are referring to in the technical news is pictured on the left.  This is not to be confused with Gary Splitter who is pictured on the right
